National FLowers – Postcards with love
The Brief:
Tourism can be a profitable – and sometimes, sole – source of income for a country. Everywhere has somewhere which people want to visit, and most of these places now feature one or two (or ten) souvenir shops, so that people can take away a little part of wherever they are home with them. It usually ends up being a t-shirt saying, 'I went to __________ and all I got was this t-shirt', which just seems like a waste. Not to mention, the amount of other trinkets made of plastic, that do not even make it to the airport. This must have a disatrous effect on the environment, and it could all be avoided. Well, partially.
The Concept:
Most countries in the world have a national flower – and these postcards feature abstract shapes of these flowers, and the colours of the countries' flags. My intention is that the cards will be printed on heavyweight, natural card that has seeds printed into the paper. This means that when you return home, the card can just be planted into the ground and by the time the flower blooms, the card will have returned to the earth. The designs will would be riso-printed, since it is the most eco-friendly method of printing, and there is a note on the cards to say to write only in black pen, which not (as) toxic to soil and plants, like colours are.
Solo Project; 2 Days.
Deliverables:  A set of six double-sided postcards, in English and the respective native language of the country in question.
